British Literature After 1800

This course covers the development of British Literature from the Romantic Period to the contemporary era. Selections taught are representative of each epoch and various literary movements, genres, and themes of British Literature. I taught this course in Fall 2014 with an emphasis on novels that allowed us to also explore gender in the writings. I continued my use of a real-world applicable assignment in this course with the use of Goodreads book reviews while also continuing to require scholarly summaries of works read for the course. Students also wrote regular reading responses and completed a formal academic research paper exploring some aspect of the gender in writing theme for the course.
